Passions and Prayers
Join CASTALIA Vocal Consort in a rare performance of Wolfgang Rihm's remarkable 'Sieben Passions-texte' in the magnificent surrounds of Christchurch St Laurence. Paired with works by with Francis Poulenc, James Macmillan, Hildegard von Bingen, Abbie Betinis, William Mundy, and Australian composer David Yardley, amongst others, this promises to be a extraordinary evening of music, from the intensely impassioned to the sublimely contemplative. Not to be missed!

Her Eyes
The narrative of a virgin journeying to motherhood has inspired great artists and composers for thousands of years. Its focus is often on her purity, her spiritual devotion, and without reference to the mental and physical struggles of pregnancy as a young woman.
Castalia presents ‘Her Eyes’, a musical and artistic exploration of Mary as a woman outside of her spiritual status. Composers such as Chance, Shelley, Howells, Gyger and Poulenc, are paired with artists including Botticelli, Da Vinci, and Picasso.
Join us for the telling of the nativity through Her Eyes.

Hotheads and Lovers
Lust, longing and unrequited love: CASTALIA Vocal Consort present an exciting debut program of music from the courts of the Italian Renaissance, to the grungy laneways of NYC. From the music of Barbara Strozzi, Carlo Gesualdo and Claudio Monteverdi, to Michael Finnissy, Caroline Shaw and Salvatore Sciarrino, 'Hotheads and Lovers' traces the development of the vocal chamber ensemble from stile antico to the modern day. CASTALIA is joined by special guest Simon Martyn-Ellis for this sublime programme of Italian madrigals, old and new.
